Out for a walk on a tree-lined street, idly mulling over health and family matters, suddenly I had the sensation that Jesus was right in front and a bit above me. It was as if there were only him and me, enclosed in a timeless bond while everything else faded out. Then he told me that in life there is really only you and God, and that is all. This is true for every one of us. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what other people think of you or even what all your worries and cares are for your family or work. That all falls away, and there is only you and God, your soul and God, til the end. 

He also said that God delights in each living thing, in life itself. For God, life is the most beautiful of all creation. When we care for our health and treat our body well, that is most pleasing to God. Keeping the breath of life alive is like guarding a beautiful candle flame to keep it going. And so life is sacred. As we care for ourselves and others to nurture life, that is Godly work. Words are not entirely adequate for this.
