While practicing Lectio Divina contemplative prayer, I have received the following messages about the upcoming U.S. election. For the most part, they are reassuring that our society will get through this period without too much lasting turmoil.
May 14, 2024: I heard, “Spend more time in quiet prayer for yourself and do try to go on retreat. Nourish and care for your own spiritual well being. Don’t worry about the politics of the country. Things will play out and things will happen. Circumstances will change before election day. That is all.”
June 28, 2024: Reflecting on the state of our country and what is at stake for the world, and this being the morning after a disastrous debate for Biden, in prayer I saw Jesus rotating his hands over one another to show a tumbling motion, indicating changes to come that will turn the race upside down, and then he opened his hands palm up, to show a new, different, and more optimistic outcome.
July 16, 2024: There continued to be much drama and unexpected developments around the election. Three days previous was the attempted assassination of former President Trump in which a bullet grazed his ear. If he had not turned his head at that instant, he could have been dead. Many were commenting that he seems a changed man after his near-death experience, more humbled and open.
On July 21, 2024, President Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.
August 26, 2024: In prayer, I heard, “The national election drama will be bright and shining, with sincere debate and dialogue among the younger ones. We cannot tell you more at this time.”
On September 11, 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump met to debate on ABC News.
October 6, 2024: In prayer, I heard, “The election will come, there will be crowds and unrest, but stupidity will not prevail. The unrest is too disorganized for that. The vast majority of people just want to muddle through any challenges and live their lives in the usual way without radical changes, and that gives stability. There is more to fear from climate change than from political upheaval, and therefore work for the reduction of carbon emissions and for healthy soils and trees, and on educating others on what to do to care for our planet.”
On October 7, tropical storm Milton rapidly intensified into a Category 5 hurricane with 180-mile-per-hour winds heading for Florida’s west coast. The rapidity of its escalation, which stunned meteorologists, was attributed to climate change warming the waters of the Gulf.
