Power that would rather kill than listen

January 8, 2026

Do we think that God does not feel it personally when a woman is murdered in cold blood?  No, the angels are screaming in pain with gut-wrenching cries. They can think of nothing else but this violent injustice.

Christ himself feels again the pain of his Crucixion, when the nails pierced his hands and he died a slow and agonizing death for challenging the ruling class’s oppression of the poor and vulnerable.  This shows again how angry the worldly powers become when their authority is challenged.  See my hands, Christ says, how they still ooze and bleed when something like this happens.

Power in itself is not the problem. For example, the Pope is powerful. A community leader can genuinely care about constituents. But power without humility, humanity, empathy, and justice is dangerous. It is power that would rather kill than listen.

The path to peace is to acknowledge our pain, our heartbreak, our overwhelming sense of injustice.  To join together in community and bear witness.  To speak our truth.  To hold those afflicted in our hearts. The collective screams of millions may make a difference. This shocking act has given many a single-minded focus and clarity. No more!

That is all for now.
