Yesterday at centering prayer group, first I saw Jesus crowned with jewels, red and blue gems, and wearing richly colored robes, also deep red and blue. Jesus as King of Heaven. All around him, his court, and legions surrounding them. (Coincidentally, this coming Sunday, November 23, is Christ the King Sunday in the Catholic church.)
Then I saw Jesus in his earthly existence wearing a simple, roughly woven brown robe, walking the dusty earth of Israel, teaching and healing the ordinary people. Although living the life of a poor mendicant, his face was lit up with joy and love shone forth from his eyes.
Then I saw Jesus in his passion, the midst of intense pain, which is also the pain of humanity. One can meditate on that pain and become one with the pain, that pain beyond all pain. Then the session ended.
Christ is present for us in all his forms.
