How to unite daily work with prayer

October 7, 2025

On Sunday, I went to church. In prayer, I saw Jesus with angels and saints on either side of him.  I said, “I’m sorry I have been so busy and distracted with worldly affairs, and I’ve been out of touch.” Jesus said, “We are here, present now. We haven’t gone anywhere, and here you are now.”  He continued, “All the housework, cooking, dishes, taking care of your family’s needs are all offerings to God.  This includes your work to arrange your finances – this is for your family’s benefit too, and this is also an offering to God.”  I asked, “How can I bring this together with prayer life?”  Jesus said, “The prayer and meditation traditions offer many ways to unite worldly activity with awareness of God’s presence. The Christian tradition has the practice of the hours, periods of prayer through the day. Or you can make time for contemplative prayer or meditation in the morning and read a bit of Scripture at night. By touching in at intervals, your daily work and prayer life are brought together, aligned, and harmonized.”  Amen.

Let us take a moment, too, to mourn the lives lost and lives changed since this date two years ago, lives that go beyond national identities and boundaries. There has been enough human suffering to go around. Pray for those affected by conflict, loss, and destruction, regardless of national origin.  And pray for peace. God’s nature or default setting is peace; but by their free will, human beings sometimes fight. The celestial beings feel this pain and disharmony acutely and pray for peace.  Amen.
