Within is the bright luminosity of our soul in God

Luke 15:3-7

In today’s reading, Jesus tells the parable of the lost sheep. Even though the shepherd has ninety-nine other sheep, he leaves them alone in the desert to go looking for that one lost sheep, and when the sheep is found, he is overjoyed. He brings it home and rejoices with his family and friends that he found it.  In the same way, God seeks us out relentlessly, never giving up, and when we turn to God in repentance, there is great rejoicing in heaven.

This means that we should not think we are insignificant, just one of billions of people on the planet and billions who have lived and died before us. God actually does care about each one of us. How can this be? One reason is that it is in the nature of God to care about every living being and every little detail; nothing is too small for God.

Another reason is that our souls are bright fragments of God’s being. There is no way that our soul can be overlooked. God is in us, God is around us, and God is throughout.

We may have crosses to bear, pain and difficulties, but within is the bright luminosity of our soul in God. Amen.
