Today, a beautiful spring day, the plants are starting to emerge from the earth, putting up shoots. The small insects and animals are beginning to move about. You too have experienced a reset, as you have been sick for a few days and are now coming back.
Taking care of the small plants, small animals, and small actions we take to care for one another are powerful in the resistance. These are lessons in peace. Recently a rabbit was in the news when it got run over by a large passenger plane, which caused the engine to shoot flames. The plane had to do an emergency landing. This illustrates that a small animal can be more powerful than a large jet engine. This is a metaphor for peaceful resistance.
We also saw a senator take his own time and personal courage to go to El Salvador to meet with his constituent who had been wrongfully abducted. Through his showing up, bearing witness, and gentle persistence, he was able to meet with his constituent and to learn useful information about the “deal” that is holding him there. These are lessons in peaceful resistance.
Those who have oriented themselves solely to the profit motive have lost their bearings. They have lost their moral compass. Through cold calculation, they deem the earth doomed, so they might as well squeeze every last drop of value from it before it dies. They do not seek to save the planet or the people. These are the hard facts.
But there are those of us who do not give up on nurturing the earth. We will nurture the earth and its creatures, and we will survive, as Indigenous people have survived for millenia in contact with the earth. That is it for today. Amen.
