Luke 11:29-32
In this reading, Jesus reproaches his generation, calling them an “evil generation,” for seeking a sign from God, yet not seeing the sign God has already sent in the person of Jesus. He says that at the time of judgment, the people of Nineveh who listened to Jonah, and the people of the Queen of South who came from far away to visit Solomon, will reproach them for not waking up and paying attention to what God is calling them to do.
To our generation too, Jesus could say that his teachings to love and care for the poor, sick, and vulnerable are already available to us. Jesus did not teach, “bully your neighbor, take money away from the poor.” Those who call themselves Christians to justify an oppressive regime should think again.
In kindness, there is peace, peace between people and peace of mind. Dwell in peace – that is our protection. Amen.
