Luke 6:27-38
Luke 6:27-38 is packed with familiar teachings of Jesus that are repeated so often, they have become like slogans reminding us of the spiritual way to relate with others. Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, pray for those who mistreat you, turn the other cheek, do to others as you would have them do to you, stop judging and you will not be judged, forgive and you will be forgiven, give and gifts will be given to you. Why are these repeated so often? Because they are hard for human beings to live up to. They are not the human way of thinking, but rather the spiritual way of being.
As such, they are a guidebook for civil disobedience. or resistance. The most effective resistance is often delivered from a spiritual place, as shown by Mahatma Ghandi or Martin Luther King. Let us reflect on this. Amen.
