December 28, 2024, Feast of the Holy Innocents, martyrs
Last night I dreamt that every moment in time contains the Mystery of truth, of God’s presence, if we only slow down enough to be aware of it.
I also heard that time does not go in a straight line, just as Einstein perceived in his theory of relativity. Spiritually also, it does not go in a straight line. Who knows how Einstein perceived these things, or whether as some say it was his wife. What happens in the sacred bond of a marriage is not to be seen. Separately, there will be a post gathering all the messages about time received so far.
Matthew 2:13-18
Today recounts the story of Herod murdering the innocent young children, all the boys in Bethlehem age two or younger, in his attempt to wipe out the future “king of the Jews.” He did this because the three wise men had told him about the star they saw and the prediction that it heralded the birth of Jesus, who they called King of the Jews. When the wise men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went home by a different route. Herod waited – and waited. But when they did not appear before him, he made his murderous plan.
Sadly the boys died – now considered the first martyrs by the Church – and their parents suffered with them. But Herod did not succeed in countering God’s plan with his crude attempts to interfere with fate, because an angel had warned Joseph in a dream. Joseph got up immediately during the night and set out for Egypt with Jesus and Mary, a very long journey, and they remained there safe for two years.
While God’s intervention works on a different plane entirely, the plane of light and Spirit, Herod’s ham-fisted attempts to safeguard his throne only resulted in pain and destruction on the material level. Thus we learn that oppression cannot succeed in suppressing the voice that brings truth, the message of peace. That is all for today.
