Luke 21:29-33
In today’s reading, Jesus continues in his description of the upheaval and disruption that is coming within that generation, that is, likely the events of 70 AD when the temple was destroyed. The powers that be are no more; “heaven and earth will pass away.” And yet, he says, “my words will not pass away.”
All these centuries later, Jesus’ words are still with us. He rightly predicted that his words would endure. We can feel grateful that his words are still with us. When we are feeling battered and bruised by the events of our times or the events of our lives, these words are a comfort to us, and the fact that they endure is a comfort to us. Amen.
