When I first sat down for contemplative prayer, before starting the reading, I felt that Jesus was saying, “Is it any surprise that the people of the Spirit, those who love peace, find themselves once again in an oppressed situation as a result of the election?”  Rarely has it been different than this; rarely has a just and kind government reigned on earth. People were hopeful for a different outcome, for a government that they thought expressed their values, but when has God established his Kingdom on earth?  When has God expressed love and mercy through government?  The Kingdom of God is not of this world.  So our task remains the same – to love one another, to spread peace, to be an underground movement for justice and peace, and to care for creation. Amen.
