Today in prayer I see Jesus above. He says that he is the north star by which to navigate, showing the way.  Orient to him in my journey, and that provides a steady bearing amidst the seas of life.  He further says that we do not always have to puzzle over the meaning of Scripture passages.  It can become like a hobby, a mental pastime.  Rather, breathe the bright cold air, expand your awareness, and encounter God directly.

Luke 17:7-10

The essence of this section is that we should not expect to be praised or celebrated for simply doing what we are supposed to do.  It follows on the previous day’s reading about not causing others to sin. Likewise, we should do what God has commanded. But to truly help others, we need to go above and beyond, from the heart. It is not enough to just do what is commanded – where is our compassion?
